SAMSON BERMAN
MID-CENTURY MASTER
Samson Berman was an interior and furniture designer who established a bespoke practice that thrived in New York from the 1950s through the 1970s. His European apprenticeship in cabinetmaking and his fine arts and industrial design education at The Cooper Union in New York shaped him into an exacting practitioner who melded traditional and modern techniques and materials to create innovative and beautiful work.
preserving a legacy
As Samson and Laura Berman’s daughters, we are interested in documenting Samson’s life and work, preserving his legacy, and sharing it with others who may be interested. Samson was recognized as an important designer during his lifetime, receiving considerable press coverage and inclusions in several books. However, since his death in 1980, little information has been available, and a limited number of original pieces come up for auction each year.
